it will be helpful to review
[101] to [164]
[165] to [168]
[169] to [189]
in the Spiritual     Exercises.

Pray and Reflect:
  1. The means enter into the end.
  2. Discernment is getting my head, heart, faith and body together -- the quality of decision-making.
  3. The good Christian conscience when faced with a dilemma will almost invariably choose the harder thing -- and almost invariably be wrong.
  4. Mystery is infinitely intelligible.
  5. One needs to incarnate one's consolation.
  6. One always loses something in making a decision -- even when the decision is for the love of God.
  7. God deeply respects our freedom.

 Wonder and Discuss:

  1. Repetition and application of the senses compose the person with the Mystery.
  2. Many retreatants will be using the Election to "amend" their way of life rather than to choose a way of life.
  3. Ignatius' method of choice is counter-cultural: choosing the end and then the means.
  4. Talking with a director each day is an essential exercise in the retreat.
  5. A good director directs the process but not the content for a retreatant.
