Assumptions and Images of the Will of God


          This chapter takes up three topics: the difference between the Christian life and the Christian spiritual life, images of the Will of God and the influence of these images on prayer and decision-making, and the four basic assumptions of apostolic spirituality. 
 
 

For Chapter 3 --

it will  be helpful to refer to the Spiritual Exercises [135] for Ignatius’ reference to the life of the
commandments and the life of the  counsels, the basis for   Christian life/ Spiritual life. 


Pray and Reflect: 
  1. What images of God’s Will have been operative in my lifetime?
  2. How have these images changed over the years?
  3. What influence/limitation has this change had on me?

 Wonder and Discuss:

  1. How will a director know that someone does not have a spiritual life?
  2. What images of God’s Will are dominant in your present directees?
  3. Which of the assumptions of apostolic spirituality are generally      accepted?
  4. Which assumptions seem to be disregarded in your directees?
