Chapter
3
Assumptions
and Images of the Will of God
This chapter takes up three topics: the difference between the Christian
life and the Christian spiritual life, images of the Will of God and the
influence of these images on prayer and decision-making, and the four basic
assumptions of apostolic spirituality.
| For
Chapter 3 --
it will
be helpful to refer to the Spiritual Exercises [135] for Ignatius’ reference
to the life of the
commandments
and the life of the counsels, the basis for Christian
life/ Spiritual life.

Pray
and Reflect:
-
What images
of God’s Will have been operative in my lifetime?
-
How have these
images changed over the years?
-
What influence/limitation
has this change had on me?
|
Wonder
and Discuss:
-
How will a director know
that someone does not have a spiritual life?
-
What images of God’s Will
are dominant in your present directees?
-
Which of the assumptions
of apostolic spirituality are generally accepted?
-
Which assumptions seem
to be disregarded in your directees?
